Episode 5: Our Freddie Mercury Tribute Episode

Greetings fellow Sackvillians and friends of Sackville!

Welcome to Episode 5 of Stories from Sackville.

So this is one of those episodes that happen every once in a while. One of those embarrassing ones in which one of us gets a bit too drunk. Tonight was Steve’s turn. As the intro message says, he is suitably embarrassed. Just roll your eyes at him and move on. He hopes it doesn’t ruin the enjoyment of the episode.

Peter claims that "transparency" is the podcasts motto. Steve thought it was "Sho' me the money". Apparently, he was wrong. Anyway, what that means is that we'll always post an episode: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

We have implemented new rules about pacing our drinks as a result. We are calling it the Steve rule.

Today’s episode celebrates the legacy of Freddie Mercury who died Novemeber 24, 1991. To make us all feel old: that was 27!!!! Years ago. We also take some time to remember some other singers (Chris Cornell in particular).

As always, we hope that this stimulates more discussion, so we encourage you all to post your stories about your favourite teachers and your favourite stories on the Facebook page.

And, as always, thanks to all of you who have commented so far.

Episode 4: Our remembering teachers Episode

Greetings fellow Sackvillians and friends of Sackville!

Welcome to Episode 4 of Stories from Sackville.

We pause to remember our friend and classmate Jeff Vey who passed away just before we recorded this episode. Rest in Peace Jeff (November 26, 1967 - November 10, 2018)

Today’s episode was suggested by Blair Faulkner (thanks, Blair!). It is also timely due to the death of former teacher Paul Mason (January 3, 1944 - November 3, 2018). Some embarrassing incidents from the past (especially Steve’s) come to light (honestly, he DID ask others if the blade was on correctly – they LIED to him – jerks).

We begin at Caudle Park Elementary, moved through Sidney Stephen and A.J. Smeltzer Junior Highs, and to Sackville High. We remember all these teachers with fondness (flawed though they were) and hope we conveyed that tone.

As always, we hope that this stimulates more discussion, so we encourage you all to post your stories about your favourite teachers and your favourite stories on the Facebook page.

And, as always, thanks to all of you who have commented so far.

Episode 3: Our 1970s television shows (part 2) Episode

Greetings fellow Sackvillians and friends of Sackville!

Welcome to Episode 3 of Stories from Sackville.

It appears that some of the clips did not get uploaded. Steve apologizes.

So we are noticeably drunker in this episode than in past episodes. This is because Steve had his computer on the wrong settings which made the audio unlistenable (or at the very least you couldn’t hear Peter well at all). This means that we had to record both episodes 2 and 3 a second time. This, of course, means that we were further into the bottle than we normally were.

Peter was so far gone that he says that Sean Astin played Frodo in The Lord of the Rings movies. Of course, he played Samwise Gamgee. Peter is properly chagrined.

Steve now has a better handle on how to upload episodes. Thanks to help from Jasen “AlienCG” Buch (Steve’s co-host on the In Search Of podcast which you can find on the Illuminati Social Club website). This means that there won’t be as long of a delay between recording and posting.

To give you a glimpse behind the podcast curtain, we generally record two episodes on the same night. This way we don’t have to record every week (for which our livers thank us), but you can still have an episode a week.

We have been extremely pleased with the response so far. Thanks to all of you who have commented so far. Please continue so to do.

In today’s episode, we present the second part of a two part discussion about some favourite television shows from the 1970s.

We hope you enjoy the shows we’ve chosen and our discussions of them. Of course, there will be more episodes like this in the future.

As we’ve said before, we have begun a list of topics for the future. If you have suggestions for topics, please send them along. We can say WHEN we’ll get to them, but we will put them on the list. Thank you to those who have already done so. They are on the list (or will be shortly).

Episode 2: Our 1970s television shows (part 1) Episode

Greetings fellow Sackvillians and friends of Sackville!

Welcome to Episode 2 of Stories from Sackville.

For those of you who don’t know, we now have a Facebook page for the podcast. It is a closed group which just means that one of us will have to approve your joining. Have to protect ourselves from those ubiquitous bots (Russian or otherwise). So feel free to look us up. As always, you can shoot us a message at the e-mail address below.

The first episode seems to have been a success (except for Steve’s failure to edit out the loud ringing phone – also it should be pointed out that he rather embarrassingly mispronounced the name of Doctor Who’s companion as Audric rather than Adric: he is rightfully chagrined).

We have been extremely pleased with the initial response and thanks to all of you who have commented so far. Please continue so to do.

In today’s episode, we begin a two part discussion about some favourite television shows from the 1970s. It’s a good way to ease in the podcast. It also allows Steve to show off his editing skills by putting in clips. We’ve decided to pick four television shows (we’re not gonna tell you which ones – you’ll have to listen); we’ll talk about two in this episode and the other two in Episode 3.

We decided to break them up because we realized that talking about all four in one episode would make an episode that was far too long. We’ve agreed that the episodes will be about 48 minutes long when we have clips. That is about 30 minutes of us talking about the shows and then the clips we’ve decided upon.

We hope you enjoy the shows we’ve chosen and our discussions of them. Of course, there will be more episodes like this in the future.

We’ve begun a list of topics for the future. If you have suggestions for topics, please send them along. We can say WHEN we’ll get to them, but we will put them on the list. Thank you to those who have already done so. They are on the list (or will be shortly).
