Episode 18: Our NewMusic Magazine episode

Greetings fellow Sackvillians and friends of Sackville!

Welcome to Episode 18 of Stories from Sackville.

In this episode we talk mullets, leather jackets, and U2 in a Harvey's!

Yes, we revisit the early careers of JD Roberts and Jeanne Beker. Today's topic is The NewMusic (yes, they spelled it that way - it was hip!) Magazine. We do stray into Much Music and MTV as well.

Steve drops an Aristotle reference which makes Peter remember something he learned about in university. Steve also name drops Oliver Rockside (and recommends his podcast) and Dave Brodbeck.

As always, we hope that this stimulates more discussion, so we encourage you all to tell us, on the Facebook page, what are some of your memories of the NewMusic and MUCH? Let us know.

And, as always, thanks to all of you who have commented so far.

Episode 17: Our mall episode

Greetings fellow Sackvillians and friends of Sackville!

Welcome to Episode 17 of Stories from Sackville.

In this episode we give a shout out to our friend Holly Chamberlain LaPierre and learn that the singer Nick Gilder is a stand-up guy!

We talk about Malls and just why in the hell they were just so damned important to our generation. Don't worry...no stories about throat-slitting threats (though we do call back to that story).

Steve admits an error (Chad Lindsay was right - who'da thunk it? Not Steve that's for sure ), and Peter explains why he is a poor host.

As always, we hope that this stimulates more discussion, so we encourage you all to tell us, on the Facebook page, what were some of your stories of the mall? Let us know.

And, as always, thanks to all of you who have commented so far.

Episode 16: Our tv shows with strong female characters episode

Greetings fellow Sackvillians and friends of Sackville!

Welcome to Episode 16 of Stories from Sackville.

It's our second episode with Karyn O'Connell! It's like we record these on the same night!

In this episode, we continue the theme of women. We visit television of the 1970s and the 1980s and talk about tv shows with strong women leads. Steve drops yet another killer reference to a poem by the immortal Robert Browning (1812-1889).

As always, we hope that this stimulates more discussion, so we encourage you all to tell us, on the Facebook page, what were some of your favourite tv shows with strong female leads or characters? Let us know.

And, as always, thanks to all of you who have commented so far.

Episode 15: Our women in science fiction episode

Greetings fellow Sackvillians and friends of Sackville!

Welcome to Episode 15 of Stories from Sackville.

In today’s episode, we have a special guest. Yes, we have a third host for this one. We won't tell you who it is. You'll have to listen. Suffice to say that the guest brings a female touch to the podcast.

We also do something a bit different and discuss novels (with some tv thrown in for good measure). Today, we talk about women in Science Fiction. We really get our nerd on in this one. Steve even drops a killer reference to a poem by the immortal Robert Browning (1812-1889).

As always, we hope that this stimulates more discussion, so we encourage you all to tell us, on the Facebook page, what were some of your favourite science fiction books or tv shows? Let us know.

And, as always, thanks to all of you who have commented so far.
